Navigating recent power outages in Ecuador has been particularly challenging for those of us relying on stable electricity for remote work. My personal solution involved setting up an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) to maintain internet connectivity during blackouts. Scheduled power cuts were erratic—sometimes two hours, other times a daunting six straight hours, altering day by day.

This unpredictability made planning remote meetings or completing tasks nearly impossible. Such disruptions not only affect individuals like myself but also have broader implications for business continuity and daily life. This experience underscores the critical need for reliable power solutions in our increasingly digital work environment.

4 hours of internet without power

To my surprise, i got my router connected to an UPS and it gave me 4 hours of internet until the power came back, this was a jaw dropper in Latam. Even during a power outage, your internet might stay on thanks to multiple backup systems. Your router, if connected to a UPS, keeps you online, while internet providers and data centers use similar backups to maintain service. The internet’s built-in redundancy also helps by rerouting data if certain paths fail, ensuring you stay connected despite local power disruptions.
